What does an acupuncture treatment looks like?

An acupuncture treatment usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes, depending on your symptoms and the techniques required.

During your first appointment, the practitioner will conduct a comprehensive intake. This includes discussing your health concerns, medical history, and any additional relevant information. Based on this, a personalized treatment plan will be created.

You will then lie down on the treatment table, and thin, sterile needles will be placed at specific points on the body. The insertion of the needles is usually virtually painless; some clients may feel a slight tingling, pressure, or warm sensation.

Depending on your needs, the treatment may be supplemented with:

  • Moxibustion (Moxa therapy): a warming technique using dried mugwort to heat specific points or areas and improve the flow of energy
  • Cupping therapy: glass or silicone cups are placed on the skin to stimulate blood circulation and relieve tension
  • Infrared therapy: gentle heat is directed at the treated area to promote relaxation and recovery

The needles typically remain in place for 20 to 30 minutes while you relax. After the treatment, your practitioner may briefly discuss what to expect and provide any home-care advice.

Each session is fully tailored to your personal situation and health goals
